Surah Al-Baqara (Bible) is one of the most important books in the Qur’an, in which God teaches the true religion to his people. This book is known as the "Al-Baqara" because it is the second chapter of the Qur’an, and it is called "Al-Baqara" for the reason stated above. In the Qur’an, this chapter is referred to as "Surah Al-Baqara", and it contains the verses known as "Baqara verses" or "The Cow" verses. In addition to this, it is one of the most important chapters in the Qur’an in terms of importance and content.

The interpretation of this Surah is one of the major issues in the Qur’an, and in the past, various opinions were presented in regard to this issue. Some of these opinions were based on the wording of the Qur’an, and some were based on the wisdom of the people. In the end, the opinion that has persisted is that of the majority of the people, which is that this Surah contains a number of verses that are ambiguous in terms of their meaning. It is for this reason that the Prophet (SAW) said, "The meaning of some of the verses of Surah Al-Baqara is not clear, and in fact, it is not even clear if it is good or bad." (Bukhari, Fezâilü’l-Qur’an 21).
